Is there a limit on how many dvds I can bring back from bali and into Australia?

June 9, 2009 - Posted in Bali vacation packages

I am planning to go to bali in a few weeks with my auntie and I have this huge list of about 250 -300 dvd's that I want to get. I was wondering if customs has a limit on how many you can bring back into the country. I am not going to sell them, I just love watching movies. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Matt

You need to be really careful here. The DVDs you generally pick up in Bali are pirated (ie they aren't legal) therefore if you try and bring them back into Australia you can be in for a rude welcome home from Customs.

Particularly if you bring them in such a large quantity – they will consider that you are importing them and the copyright act has recently been changed to make such thing a CRIME (meaning you could be charged for doing this).

If you then try to sell them (come on, who really wants that many DVDs for personal use?) you are again risking criminal sanction.

My suggestion is you'd be a fool to try as this stuff is high on the radar for customs (and police, once you are back in Australia).
