I am thinking of organising a trip to Bali in January but do not have a lot of money saved up. Flights from Perth and accommodation are very reasonable. How much spending money should I take for food/drinks/etc?

everything cheap in Bali, esp. food. so dont worry for food. you wont straving in Bali.

You would probably want at least $60 a day for food, drinks, travel (taxi’s etc) and shopping.

I’m going to break it down u for based on my own experience traveling to bali 4 times and staying in Kuta twice.
Kuta is almost one the most expensive areas compare to other locations to stay and dine out. But u r still able to find a place to stay in a hostel or a cheap hotel for as much as 10-15 USD if they r not fully booked for new years time.(rates would probably go up around that time as well)
You also can manage the food/drinks part of your trip with 10-20USD on a daily basis depending on how much u eat and drink and where u wanna dine out. most of convenient stores carry beer, and other low alcohol drinks plus hot dogs and subs for as much as 1-2USD.
Taxi is not expensive either, but if u plan to get a touch of the island or don’t wanna walk all the time, u can rent a motorbike(scooter) as cheap as 5-6USD per day, insurance not included(2USD).

Hey…I’m from Aus but I’m living in Indo….I’ve done quiet a bit of travelling to Bali and lived in Ubud for a while. If you stay in a small room on Poppies Rd it’ll cost you around $4 or less a night…if you eat from cheap warungs you could probably get a decent meal for $2-4 aus. I always spend more than I plan when I’m in Bali because there are so many rad things to buy! But you can always haggle the prices down. Bali is alot more expensive than other parts of Indo but alot cheaper than western prices thats for sure…
